Coming from a musical background, with his father having been a session singer and his mother a dancer, the house was always full with music and creativity. At the age of seven he started learning the guitar at school, which he took an interest to immediately as it got him out of the classroom where he was constantly disruptive through humour and an energy the teachers found hard to control. Around this time he was introduced to Rap and Hip Hop and started writing lyrics and creating backing tracks from samples.
At the age of 11 he was home-schooled for a number of years where he was allowed freedom to create and experiment with music and film, which was another great passion of his.
FØNX was lucky enough to gain a place at the Brit School where he studied music. Since leaving The Brit School where he travelled two hours there and back every day to study his passion he has since been on his musical journey writing and producing his music at home, on trains, buses, in coffee shops and backstage before shows.
Having gigged around London, the South East and various Festivals including Barn on The Farm, Cornbury Festival, Isle Of Wight Festival and Leefest, and with previous songs played by Huw Stephen’s Radio 1 and Tom Robinson Radio 6 and support from BBC Introducing, FØNX has taken a new musical direction over the last year.
He has recently been in the studio with Tommaso Colliva recording new music. His latest single ‘Can’t Get Enough’ was recorded and produced during the time Tommaso had just won his first Grammy for producing/engineering Muse’s latest album ‘Drones’. FØNX says “It was pretty awesome going to the studio every day working on these songs that I’d first written and produced demos for in my bedroom to then finally work with a professional producer on them. I came into the studio one morning and saw Tommaso’s Grammy sitting there. That gave a me a real buzz, that award definitely has a presence to it.”
Having recently signed to Intune Addicts (Management) and with more collaborations to follow, FØNX is working on new material, a live show and content for future releases.
His influences include Kanye West, Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean, D’Angelo, John Mayer, Tame Impala and many more.
