Named after a book on lucid dreaming and inspired by their joint love of sci-fi movies, novels, soundscapes, images, voices and soundtracks, Are You Dreaming? is a powerful fusion of edgy alt-rock, pop and electronica while it embodies themes of fantasy and escape. “We wanted to make music that was pure to what we were feeling; we wantedto start loving what we were writing and start living what we were thinking”, explains vocalist Rebecca. “It feels like opening a door… it feels like relief.”
Lead track ‘All Or Nothing’ starts the EP off as a formidable sonic punch, while the melancholic ‘Forever Dancing’ is a thumping floor-filler featuring Rebecca’s searing vocals and a driving backbeat.
‘Are We Alone?’ follows, opening with a sequence of resonant kalimba
chimes as the rest of the song builds with a relentless groove, layering
electronic swells and overdriven guitar.
Whispered call-and-response vocal play sits atop a bed of ghostly electronica before the delirious onslaught of the track’s immense chorus ensues.
The EP’s fourth track, ‘Stay’, sees Jamie’s guitar illuminating the power and grit in Rebecca’s soaring vocals over a tantalising instrumental, featuring glitchy electronics and delicate piano parts. Finally ‘Lose Your Love’ is a haunting song that undulates with dark, rolling bass parts and ethereal, industrial soundscapes. “We want to continue fusing genres and sounds, splicing together ideas to create something new” says Rebecca.
Recorded in the depths of Devon at Middle Farm Studios with Pete Miles and long-term producer Ian Sadler, this five-track collection takes the gritty glamour of urban living in 2017, and threads it through with bass and electronics.
It follows the release of their debut EP Into The Aether which saw them rapidly making noise on the underground music scene, and the second EP Dimensions which reached the Top 10 in the iTunes rock album chart.
