Replacing the original’s brooding production and electronics with swelling strings punctuated by expressive musicality, the rework lends the track a foreboding atmosphere, placing emphasis on Empara Mi’s stunning vocals and poignant lyricism amid an expansive and emotionally evocative soundscape.

The orchestral version follows the release of the single’s cinematic video, which premiered with Hunger and led them to describe Empara Mi as “unlike anything music has seen in a while… Proving herself to be a voice we all can empathise with, and also be in awe of, Empara Mi brings together the worlds of intimacy and relatability seamlessly, and with serious style.”

Released in April, the single followed ‘Crying’– the first new taste of Empara Mi’s captivating blend of pop, R&B and hip-hop as well as her striking visual aesthetic – which was accompanied by a stunning video inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, and produced by Lemonthebeat.

Speaking to Wonderland about ‘Crying’ Empara Mi said, “This song was inspired by some of the messages I receive from young girls and boys who are struggling with their sense of identity and find themselves trying to get out of a dark place. I want the song to be hopeful and encouraging but also an ode to their courage.”

She continued about the video to say, “The director Matt Hutchings and I wanted to pay homage to one of my favourite movie moments, the ‘dying scene’ in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. We wanted it to feel cinematic and have the romanticism of the scene but deliver a different message. Instead of taking her life, she alone, saves it instead.”

Since emerging in 2016 with her critically acclaimed debut single ‘Wanderlust’, Empara Mi has since gone on to clock up almost 3 million streams on Spotify alone, while she has also collaborated with Kojey Radical on her track ‘Spoon’.

With an uncompromising vision for her magnificent post pop, Empara Mi has returned and 2019 heralds the unfolding of her dramatic, ambitious and emotional musical direction. Stay tuned for more details soon!
