Uncured’s explosive new album WARPATH, due on February 21st, 2025, combines the raw energy, power and aggression of 2000s metal with the huge hooks, catchy choruses and brutal breakdowns of today’s metal scene to deliver an intense, fresh experience that can best be described as 'Nu Metalcore'.
WARPATH will defy your expectations. Rather than tread well-worn ground, the independent New Jersey quartet—Rex Cox (vocals), Zak Cox (guitar), “King Z” Zachary King (drums), and Betto Andrade (bass)—forges ahead with an aggressive, unrelenting, fearless sound and message of their own. Rex slides seamlessly between soaring chorus melodies, visceral screams, deathcore gutturals, and lightning-fast lyrics, while Zak’s guitar flows from pounding riffs to impeccable guitar solos. WARPATH is a wild ride, showcasing the band’s exceptional musicianship and flair with songs that are catchy, insightful, and unapologetically angry.
Unlike most other bands of this current generation, Uncured did not start its journey on social media. Instead, the band honed its craft on the road, and has already played over 300 shows in 14 different countries, touring with top acts such as Bad Omens, Jinjer and Bad Wolves, to name just a few. Uncured draws consistent praise for its energetic, relentless live performances and outstanding musicianship.
“Rex and I began touring when he was 16 and I was 18. Our experiences on the road have taught us what fans want from a touring band, and our experiences on stage have made us better performers and song writers.”” says Zak. “ Beyond dozens of tours in North America, Uncured has toured the European summer festival circuit, including appearances at iconic events such as Bloodstock in the UK and Summer Breeze in Germany. Uncured also toured throughout South America, playing amphitheater venues as direct support to Lacuna Coil. “There is a unique intensity that comes with playing international shows,” says Rex. “A metal touring package is a major event in most international markets, and the electricity generated by the fans helped us to learn how to write melodies and riffs that build and sustain that energy.”
Uncured are confirmed to perform at DWP’s massive Sonic Temple, Louder Than Life, and After Shock festivals in 2025.
Uncured’s new album Warpath showcases Uncured’s exceptional musicianship and intensity with songs that are engaging, controversial and insightful.
The album’s first single 'Mask of Sanity' was released on July 12, 2024. Loudwire praised the track, noting “its cohesion and fluidity, even when pulling off 180-degree musical turns. ‘Mask of Sanity’ combines the pop sensibilities of Linkin Park with the lunging riffs of Korn.” The song reached Top 40 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart and Top 40 on the Mediabase Active Rock Chart and was featured on Sirius XM Octane Test Drive.
The second single 'Manifesto' on August 22, 2024. Metal Hammer described the song as “a raging, down-tuned stomper that brings to mind shades of Dope, Slipknot and Killswitch Engage.” 'Manifesto' reached Top 25 on Metal Contraband Radio and Top 25 on NACC Heavy Radio, and was selected “Track of the Week” in a Metal Hammer fan poll.
Uncured released Warpath’s third single 3 Minutes on September 24, 2024. Metal Hammer praised the track, stating that Uncured is “bringing back the swagger” of Nu Metal “while the rapid flows of Rex Cox bring to mind the more frenetic stylings of Corey Taylor.”
On October 22, 2024, Uncured released a cover of 'Closer', a wild reimagining of Nine Inch Nail’s industrial hit. In its exclusive preview of the track, Loudwire stated that Uncured “elevates Nine Inch Nails' most popular track to an even more intense level. The cover finds Rex not simply channeling his inner Trent Reznor, but allowing it to completely take over, creating a sense of pure chaos.” The track debuted on Loudwire Nights national radio and Sirius XM Liquid Metal’s Corridor of Covers.
Elsewhere there is 'Perfect Specimen', Uncured’s most troubling and emotionally complex song. Musically the song is beautiful, with timpani drums framing smooth synths and a lush soundscape. However, as the story twists from one of admiration to control and obsession, Rex transitions his vocals from easy harmonies to wild intensity. Rex explains, that 'Perfect Specimen' addresses “how daily life never lives up to the expectations that come from our perceptions of the world. The song serves as a microcosm for social entrapment.”
'Perfect Specimen' vocals-only and instrumental versions are also included in the WARPATH release as bonus tracks. In addition to Perfect Specimen, the WARPATH release includes three additional tracks: 'Prostitute', 'Fall In Line', and 'Crucify'.
'Prostitute' is a song about the personal cost of success, and how much dignity we are willing to sacrifice in order to achieve the goal. The song is framed by a slithering, groovy bass riff, setting the atmosphere for Rex to reflect on “selling himself” to achieve success. The chorus pushes forward with determination as Rex decides “ I’ll go through whatever it takes, as I swallow my pride and I moan through the pain.” 'Prostitute' features a spectacular guitar solo, with Zak delivering particularly complex runs with fluidity and ease.
'Fall in Line', a song that cinematically conjures the weight and oppression of an authoritarian government that limits self-expression. The ominous soundscape of 'Fall in Line' features marching snares and pounding boots transporting the listener to the parade grounds of a totalitarian state. Rex again showcases his incredible vocal range, voicing different characters in the drama through a variety of spoken tones, whispers and impassioned screams. The song has a pay-off that is sure to become a festival favourite as the entire band sings “fight back let’s hold the line” over Zak’s guitar acrobatics.
'Crucify' again displays Uncured’s versatility, its foundation combining a massive hip-hop groove with fiery whammy guitar hits. A thundering bass takes centre stage throughout as Rex raps the courage required to speak out despite the consequences. The song contains several acrobatic guitar solos, showcasing Zak Cox at his best.
All said, WARPATH lives up to its name as a mission statement for the band and the legions of fans looking for a new sound with a powerful, undiluted message. With WARPATH, Uncured is on a mission to deliver statement that captures attention for its music, lyrical content, and social commentary. Mission accomplished.
