rosi release new single 'Off the Tracks'

Alternative electronic duo rosi have released their brand new single ‘Off the Tracks’. Reflecting the need for escapism, ‘Off the Tracks’ strives for calm and balance within the chaos of life.

The song features delicate guitar and comforting hushed vocals from singer and songwriter Joni Mathews, which are paired with swells of lush synths and warped samples from producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Petrosino.

Regarding the song Joni says, “‘Off the Tracks’ was the earliest song we wrote for the project, pre-pandemic. I started it on an acoustic guitar and Chris produced it much later with live drums, a Prophet, and modular synths. We were feeling claustrophobic during a long winter in NYC and a bit isolated despite the constant ‘connectedness’ of social media. I was thinking a lot about intelligent, social animals like orcas being held in captivity — it can change their psyche and make them violent. I guess I was identifying with that primal feeling of being trapped. The song connected with us even more as we watched the last two years unfold.”

The track has been released to early support from Under The Radar Magazine who have said, "Opening on hypnotic guitar lines and ethereal vocals from Mathews, the song steadily builds into a warm trance, awash in sweet swelling melodies and dreamy vibes. The resulting track calls back melodically to the band’s UK trip hop touchstones, like Massive Attack and Portishead, yet also builds in a driving pulse with contemporary production touches to offer a fresh sheen. The track feels like a slowly dawning 3 AM comedown, a feeling reflected in the longing escapist lyrics."

‘Off the Tracks’ follows the release of rosi’s debut single ‘White Light’ last month. The track provides a trance-inducing chaos that reflects an anxious world today. It was met by great critical support from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, CRACK Magazine, EUPHORIA, This Song Is Sick, Noctis Magazine, Ones To Watch and many more.

Originally from New York, the pair are multi-platinum and award-winning musicians behind huge global hits. However 2021 saw the duo relocate to London and embed themselves in the UK, the country that has birthed sounds pivotal in their musical influences which are the beating heart of their new project rosi.

rosi create dreamy heady music that draws influence from historic underground UK dance culture and the alt-indie scene in equal measure, which has prompted comparisons to the likes of Portishead, Burial and The xx.

rosi will be celebrating the release of their new music with a hybrid DJ set and live show at the FACES night at The Globe, Ladbroke Grove, London on November 4th, where the pair will be performing brand new songs for the first time.

“Taking influence from the UK dance scene and melding this into their own authentic sound, together they craft a euphoric and nostalgic voice through hypnotic adlibs, airy synths, and cryptic lyricism”
The Line Of Best Fit

“Dreamy, late ’90s nostalgia is tangible in the track’s spacey guitars and vocals while a sharper backbeat offers a more modern, club-fuelled edge. It mirrors the fluctuating emotions felt from the haziness of a 5 a.m. sunrise after a wild party; its textures shift from trance to trepidation, keeping you firmly on your toes”
