With downtempo beats and soaring synths, Liz demonstrates her broad vocal ability over a choice selection of songs including the title track from Womack and Womack, Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, ‘Fade Into You’ by Mazzy Star and Rialto’s ‘Untouchable’.
Regarding the EP Liz says, “I had never planned to release a covers EP and the re-interpreting of the song ‘Teardrops’ was more of a lockdown pass-time with the producer Ed Graves. I needed to satisfy a craving to stay creative. I loved taking it somewhere different and then just wanted to do more of them, so over the next 12 months I chose three of my favourite tunes from the 80s and 90s - I love those eras.
“‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ has always really moved me. I wanted it to sound filmic and heart-breaking. ‘Untouchable’ was written by my boyfriend Louis Eliot of Rialto and the lyrics are quite unusual and lend themselves to quite a dark and ethereal interpretation. Mazzy Star was an obvious choice for me and I've had ‘Fade Into You’ on repeat for years. I've always loved emotive film soundtracks so that was the direction I aimed for. Hopefully it hits the spot!”
The Teardrops EP follows her debut album The Words which was released at the end of last year to great acclaim, receiving at 4/5 nod from The Times dubbing it “a smart alternative pop debut”, Clash praised her “refined, finessed electronic pop”, while Notion claimed, “Liz Cass is an artist not afraid to wear her heart on her musical sleeve… Making alternative pop with a relatable edge”.
The singles ‘Near Miss’, ‘Confessional’ and ‘Something Real’ proved hits at radio on both sides of the Atlantic, receiving spins on iHeartRADIO while gaining great support from Radio 1 with plays from Jack Saunders, Mollie King and Maia Beth.
Liz Cass has a strong live presence live and is also a sought-after DJ who holds regular residences at London’s Stereo and KOKO, as well as shows at Pikes Ibiza and Däios Cove in Crete.
