The album has been recorded over two years at Rockfield Studios in Wales, London’s RAK Studios, Montmartre in Paris and Morsecode in Glasgow. Regarding the album title frontman Finn O’Brien says, “The 435 is a long and very useful London bus route which stretches from Marylebone to Deptford High Street. The album title is taken from a quote by Will Hicks, who had planned to get a ‘453’ tattoo because “if the 453 can go anywhere then so can I”. He lives on in the album for us and it is dedicated to his memory.” It features the new single ‘The Ugliest Look’, an anti-cultural appropriation anthem that mocks the pretentious social circles surrounding frontman Finn O’Brien’s time at Goldsmiths College. “Almost everyone I knew was ex-private school,” says Finn now, “and living in New Cross was like living in a fish tank, it just felt like everyone could see you and was watching you all the time. “‘The Ugliest Look’ is typical Jacques - it’s punky and the rhythm is jagged but has its euphoric twinkly pop moment complete with trumpets and then goes off somewhere slightly confusing and never comes back. The song is about the social pressures of the art school environment." The Four Five Three also features the previously released singles ‘Do Me For A Fool’, which proved a radio hit with support from Huw Stephens at Radio 1, BBC 6Music with Chris Hawkins and also featured as John Kennedy’s ‘Xposure Hot One’ on Radio X, while ‘Kiss The Pharaoh’ propelled them to receive strong support from BBC 6Music (Steve Lamacq, Don Letts, Huey Morgan, Huw Stephens). The album has just been hailed as “a heavy take on the Arctic Monkeys” by When The Wind Blows. Prior to March 2020 the band had toured throughout the UK and had international touring success in France, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Germany. They have been particularly well received in France - headlining the legendary Transmusicale festival, supporting Placebo and selling out six Paris club shows. They will shortly be announcing a new tour for Spring 2021 and plan to release a 60 minute film of the album in February. Filmed over the winter in hidden ruins, underground caves and perilous locations it will be a unique visual presentation of every song and a unique visual accompaniment to each song. The expansive debut album from the chaotic London indie band is hewn from a range of tragically ragged, sweet and tender adolescent experiences you can’t quite believe have been crammed into such a slight number of collective years.
